How QR codes simplify daily operations at Holzinger Fisch
With a company history spanning more than 130 years, the family-run Holzinger Fischverarbeitungs GmbH, based in Luckenberg in Upper Austria, has long since made a name for itself in the food industry. Over the years, there have not only been several generational changes—the company is now run by the fifth generation—but also numerous renovations, modernizations, and expansions of the company premises.
By now, the company has 90 pond basins where the fresh fish are housed, cared for, and supplied until processing. With this number of basins, it is not always easy to keep track and be able to say off the top of your head which fish is in which basin.
The many areas of application for digital solutions
After the successful go-live of the new company website in the spring of this year, syreta was now also able to help the fish expert with this issue by integrating QR codes.
From now on, a QR code can be assigned to each incoming fish delivery. This code is then linked to one of the 90 basins in which the fish are housed until further processing. In addition, all relevant data about the animals can be stored in the code.
This way, a scan later reveals not only everything about the fish species, but you also have all important information about the origin and delivery of the aquatic inhabitants immediately in view.
We find the QR codes not only useful, but also really stylish when embedded in the idyllic Holzinger Fisch grounds, don’t they?
Traceability as a marker of quality
In the food industry, seamless documentation of origin and husbandry is not optional, but a legal requirement—and at the same time a quality promise to the end customer. The QR code system that syreta implemented for Holzinger Fisch does exactly that: Every delivery is recorded, assigned to each basin, and all relevant information on fish species, origin, and delivery date can be accessed with a single scan.
This is a great example of how digitalization has an impact beyond webshops and e-commerce—directly in day-to-day operations, where work is done every day. Simple, practical, and with real benefits for everyone involved: from the employee at the basin to quality control.
Well, what kind of fish are you then?
