A future-oriented webshop for the Diakoniewerk

An online shop that truly does justice to its products

Diakoniewerk is a member of Diakonie Austria and thus part of one of the five largest welfare organizations in Austria. At around 200 locations, more than 3,600 employees contribute their expertise and experience. Diakoniewerk Austria now has 20 workshops where, day after day, people work who don’t have it so easy on the labor market. The dedicated employees in the workshops create wonderful one-of-a-kind pieces with joy and enthusiasm—in creative designs and of the highest quality. The product range spans from extraordinary decorative items and everyday objects to clothing, lovingly designed toys, and sustainably produced foods.

So that customers can continue to shop online to their heart’s content in the future, we have now revamped the online shop of our long-standing customer and equipped it with numerous new features and technical treats. In the background of the shop, the databases were linked so that customers can now immediately learn more about the artist of the selected product. This function doesn’t just provide information—it automatically creates an emotional connection. Who wouldn’t like to know who created the masterpiece they are about to purchase? For simpler product management and straightforward order processing, interfaces to BMD’s merchandise management system as well as, for shipping, to the Post were also implemented.

The website relaunch also opened up new worlds for employees. In the background of the online shop, Syreta created two additional user groups. Employees can now easily order products in the online shop themselves via their own access and then have them conveniently delivered through the internal mail service. In addition, the company as a whole—including all departments—was taken into account. Thanks to clever programming, departments can now use an internal tool to order products such as promotional materials from other departments and receive them via the fastest route. Gone are the days when lengthy, cumbersome phone calls or email communication were necessary to obtain materials.

What makes this relaunch special is the depth of the solution. The Diakoniewerk online shop is not only an external sales channel, but at the same time an internal ordering and logistics tool for employees and departments. Two additional user groups in the background, a direct connection to BMD and the Post, and the linking of product and artist profile—these are functions that tangibly make everyday life easier and strengthen the emotional connection between buyer and product.

Anyone who knows who made the piece they are buying purchases differently. The impact of this small feature should not be underestimated.

We really enjoyed working on the new Diakoniewerk online shop. We hope you can feel that too.
