The GSI - Gesellschaft für Soziale Initiativen is regarded as the operator of several non-profit and social-economy organizations in Austria. The GSI Group comprises a total of six organizations, each of which presents itself independently on the web. When implementing the website, we made sure to bring the individual pages together in one system, thereby ensuring reduced administration and maintenance effort. Accessibility aspects such as font-size controls and contrast switching were also taken into account. The built-in donation tool makes it possible for the user to define which organization or which projects they want to support with their donation, which in turn greatly reduces the administrative effort involved in handling donations.
What makes the GSI project technically special is the balance between unity and independence. Six organizations, six distinct identities – and yet a shared system in the background that minimizes administrative effort. Changes to the shared infrastructure only have to be maintained once, and still each organization can design its own presence.
Accessibility is not an add-on here, but a logical consequence: organizations that support people with special needs must have a website that can also be used by those people. Font-size controls and contrast switching are low-threshold, effective measures.
The donation tool goes one step further: those who donate can decide for themselves which project or which organization receives their money. That is transparency in donation processing – and a vote of confidence for everyone who wants to support the work of the Diakoniewerk and its partner organizations.
