Tradition meets digital customization
In just a few clicks to your dream dirndl
The Salzburger Heimatwerk has stood for decades for Austrian craftsmanship, traditional folk costume fashion, and the highest quality. Together with syreta, a digital solution was created that enables the individual configuration of dirndls online, thus combining traditional tailoring with modern e-commerce processes.
With the dirndl configurator, customers can put together their personal dream dirndl directly online. Various fabrics, colors, aprons, and other features can be combined individually. This creates a realistic impression of the finished garment already during the configuration process.
The digital solution helps Salzburger Heimatwerk make the possibilities of made-to-measure production and personalization tangible online as well. At the same time, the consultation and ordering process for customers is simplified and the link between traditional craftsmanship and the digital shopping experience is strengthened.
Product configurators in e-commerce - when buying becomes designing
A product configurator is technically more demanding than a classic webshop because it doesn’t simply display existing products; instead, it allows the customer to define their product during the ordering process. Every combination of fabric, color, apron, and other features must be visualized in real time, calculated in terms of price, and processed as an individual order. For Salzburger Heimatwerk, this is especially important: traditional costume fashion carries emotional value, and customers want to see their dirndl before they buy it—not only once it has been delivered. A well-implemented configurator therefore significantly reduces returns and follow-up questions as well, because the purchase decision is based on a realistic preview. At the same time, it opens up the online channel for a target group that would traditionally have gone to brick-and-mortar retail—and that can now experience the individualized consultation digitally too.
The project shows how regional craftsmanship and modern digital technologies can successfully complement each other. By combining tradition, personalization, and e-commerce, a solution was created that reflects the special character of Salzburger Heimatwerk online as well.
What makes the dirndl configurator technically interesting is real-time visualization. Customers don’t see an abstract selection list, but their actual emerging garment—fabric by fabric, color by color. This changes the purchase decision: anyone who has already virtually assembled their dirndl before buying is closer to placing an order than someone scrolling through static product pages.
For a company like Salzburger Heimatwerk, which stands for handcrafted individuality and Austrian tradition, this configurator is also a promise: made-to-measure doesn’t have to be impractical. Together with syreta, a tool was created that makes exactly that experience possible digitally.
